Most of us have heard of a she-shed or a man-cave, and now there exists a “cat cave!” Or, there can exist one if you choose to crochet this adorable project!
There is nothing that cats love more than climbing into places where they can hide. Some popular hiding spots for cats include under beds, inside boxes, in empty laundry baskets, and behind curtains. Cats are naturally drawn to cozy and enclosed spaces, where they can feel safe and secure.
So why not crochet up a totally unique place for your cat to hide? In addition to being very useful for a cat, the style of this cat bed will be a wonderful addition to any room due to its elegant appearance!
The size of this boho-chic cat cave is about 12 inches by 12 inches and it has a circumference of about 38 inches. So, a very large cat would probably not be as comfortable as a smaller cat, although some cats are strange, and some large cats would probably love hiding in this cat cave!
The recommended yarn for this project is approximately 760 yards of 100% cotton, worsted weight. However, do note that although gauge is not important for this project, you may want to have extra yarn over and above the 760 yards, as differing amounts of yarn may be needed depending on various features of the project.
You will also need a wooden bag bottom for the bottom of the cage, a 12-inch steel ring for the top, and plastic canvas sheeting to keep the sides sturdy. There are links to all of these products via Amazon at the cat cave designer’s site.
Additionally, wooden beads are great to have for the fringe that hangs on the front. The designer also has a link to some at that site.
The pattern has a ton of photos to help you along in the process, since this is such an unusual type of crochet project.
