Here is a FREE crochet pattern for this magnificent Merlin Square!
This is a 12-inch block that, when crocheted together with a bunch of them, would create one of the most spectacular afghans ever seen!
Although there are suggested colors recommended, for me, yarns in varied shades of the same color would work incredibly in creating an absolutely beautiful afghan block!
A total of 15 different colors are used. although with some thought, you could probably get away with using less colors by correctly varying the colors as you work through the block.
Another combination that would work great for this particular pattern would be varied pastels!
There are so many different combinations of colors that would work well, that making the final decision on what colors to use will likely be the most difficult thing about this pattern, as there are basically pictures included with each round after the first couple of rounds, which will allow you to see exactly how each round should look.
So give the colors in this one some consideration, and then get out your Size H (5 mm) crochet hook and your chosen worsted-weight yarns, and start crocheting!
For this project, you will also need a tapestry needle to weave in the ends and eight stitch markers.
Stitches required for this afghan block include the following, which makes this crochet pattern somewhat of an intermediate to advanced pattern.
ch – Chain
sc – Single crochet
tr – Triple crochet
FPdc – Front post double crochet
BLO – Back loop only
yo – Yarn over
hdc – Half double crochet
FPsc – Front post single crochet
FPtr – Front post triple crochet
slst – Slip Stitch
dc – Double crochet
BPhdc – back post half double crochet
FLO – Front loop only
Have fun with this one, and Happy Crocheting!
